Christopher Dean

Software Developer & Fantasy Author

I was born in 1987 in Birmingham, UK. My earliest memories always centre around my parents, my sister, and our small house in Bearwood. My mum read a lot of fantasy, and I remember gazing at the pictures on the Anne McCaffrey Pern books in her bookcase, and drawing pictures of the dragons.

I grew up on Terry Pratchett novels, also introduced to me by my mother. They were a companion through my teens and young adult life as I worked through the Discworld series.

I always wanted to create fantasy that was grounded – that conveys real, everyday human emotions, not just unique worlds and creatures. A world you could imagine yourself living in, because, despite the fantastic absurdity, it feels real.

I live with my wonderful wife of nine years and my two beautiful daughters. I have worked on my debut novel for a long time, learning the craft as I go and finding the inspiration to finish after my daughters were born. I am also working through my TBR list; as a writer I feel that my collection is a little lacking, and there are so many great stories out there to enjoy.

Currently Seeking Representation

I am actively seeking literary representation for my debut novel, DESTINY RIFT - a 105,000-word Upper YA fantasy exploring themes of divided loyalties, identity, and belonging. The manuscript is complete, and I have a plan for at least one sequel.
